Super Rec B: Lost and Found

Posted by Luke on Monday December 6 2010 1:05 pm in CVNS News,Tournaments | Comments (0)

Lost: was a child’s mouthguard / retainer. It was last seen on the stage area and may have accidentally fallen into your gym bag. If you could check your bag and have it, let me know so we can get it returned to its rightful owner.

Found: Was a volleyball. If it’s yours (and it should be pretty easy to tell if it is or not), let me know and I’ll figure out a way to get it to you.

December Tournament

Posted by Luke on Wednesday December 1 2010 12:40 am in Tournaments | Comments (0)

Hey everyone,

The December tournament is this weekend, teams registered and gym locations can be found where they normally are (registrations page, gym locations).

As per usual, get your team lists into Sophie if you have new players so that she can get them into Stad. If your team can’t play, make sure to let Sarah know before the deadline of 5pm Wednesday (their information can be found on the contact page).

Good luck to everyone this holiday season!

November Tournament and (Early) Christmas Social

Posted by Luke on Wednesday November 3 2010 12:26 am in Tournaments | Comments (0)

Hey Kids,

The November tournament is upon us, as is the annual Christmas Social.

The big change for this month is with Super Rec B, who will be playing in Windsor at Avon View High School as there are no gyms available in the HRM. While it is a bit of a bummer to have to drive a little further, I have been assured it is a great gym. The location of the gym can be found here, and will be added to the Gym Locations page as soon as I can get it on there (quick edit: gym now on the page!).

Competitive teams please get any new player names into Sophie so they can get into Stad.

Check the Registrations page to see what division your team is playing in.

Please make sure to show up BY 8:45 and the games have to START by 9:00, so PLEASE be there on time.

This is a final reminder that if your team pulls out after the cutoff date of Wednesday night at 5pm, their team’s cheques WILL be cashed. We have given fair warning. It makes a mess for everyone if you pull out at the last minute, so please, be mindful of others and if you cannot court a team then let us know on time.

… on a fun note, the Christmas Social will again be held at the Argyle. The party will be starting around 9:30 – 10pm, as is the norm. There will be drink tickets being handed out by some of the good people of your CVNS executive, but they will be limited. In any case we’ll have some fun, so be sure to come out.

New Rule

Posted by Luke on Wednesday September 29 2010 1:24 pm in Rules | Comments (1)

Hey Everyone,

I’ve been sent the following to help clear up any issues with the new rule… this is the new rule in it’s entirety.

11.4 PLAYER’S FAULTS AT THE NET

A player interferes with the opponent’s play by (amongst others):

- touching the top band of the net or the top 80 cm of the antenna during his/her action of playing the ball, or

- taking support from the net simultaneously with playing the ball, or

- creating an advantage over the opponent, or

- making actions which hinder an opponent’s legitimate attempt to play the ball

Hope this helps!

October Tournament, Rules and Notes

Posted by Luke on Wednesday September 29 2010 12:33 am in CVNS News,Tournaments | Comments (0)

Hello everyone!

Gym locations for the second tournament of the year have been posted. You can see them on the right hand side of the screen there.

Be sure to be there and ready to start at 9am SHARP. We only have the gyms for a limited amount of time and need to finish by that time so that we can have the finals and playoffs and all that jazz. Starting this month, if you’re not there in time and your team is scheduled to start, your team may be penalized.

Notice to teams about cheques. If you haven’t gotten your cheques in yet, please do so now, as you need to have your cheques to ensure your team a spot in the tournament. Also, some teams only sent in $66 for the February tournament. It is the annual “charity” tournament, and costs $100 to enter a team. Teams who didn’t send in enough will be notified by their court reps at this coming tournament. Sarah Maguire is taking on these responsibilities, and you can find her contact information on the Contacts page.

Teams who cancel after Wednesday night at 8pm will unfortunately lose their cheques. This is to prevent tournaments where we do not have any teams show up. The dates are all posted here on the website, they are always the first Saturday of the month (barring Holidays), so there should be no excuse to pull a team out before that. Cancellations should also be directed to Sarah Maguire.

There will be the usual party in November after that months tournament. More details will be announced in the coming weeks concerning the party.

New Rule: In an even more fun announcement, we are all about adopting change here at CVNS, and as such we are going to make a change to our rules. Starting this tournament if you touch the net anywhere that isn’t the tape and it does not interfere with play, it will no longer be a net foul. Hitting the tape and going under the net will still be called however as a matter of safety. Please be patient with our “referees” as we adopt this change.

Kicking it back up! September Tournament

Posted by Luke on Wednesday September 15 2010 12:51 am in CVNS News,Tournaments | Comments (0)

Hello everyone! Welcome to the 2010/2011 season!

September tournament locations have been posted. Check here for registrations and here for all tournament dates.

Competitive teams will be playing at Stad this Saturday, starting at 9am sharp. Be sure to be there on time! Also, team captains, please get your team lists in to Sophie (Sophie [dot] Pitre-Arseneault [at] dfo-mpo [dot] gc [dot] ca) ASAP so you can get in to Stad to play on Saturday. (Likewise, team captains can send me their actual team names so I can change them on the registration page – luke [at] cvns [dot] org).

Super Rec teams will only have 1 division this month, and they will be playing at the Prospect Community Center (map link now on directions page!). Their tournament will be running from 12 noon to 7, though with only 8 teams, it shouldn’t really take that long. Should be the only time this happens, starting late is better than not starting at all!

Looking forward to another great season of Volleyball! See you on the court!

We’re Back!

Posted by Luke on Wednesday September 1 2010 12:07 pm in CVNS News,Tournaments | Comments (0)

… aaaaaand we’re back.

As Summer winds down (obvious by the heatwave going through Halifax) that means that another season of CVNS is ready to start up again.

First tournament of the year will be Saturday, September 18th. Because of normally low turnout in Septemeber tournaments, and school gyms not yet being available, there will only be room for 15 teams total (5 Competitive, 5 Super Rec A, 5 Super Rec B) teams for the September tournaments. Get your registration cheques into Kevin Reade (contact information on the contact page) to make sure you get your team registered for the upcoming season.

We will soon know the dates of the rest of the tournaments and they will be posted here.

Citadel Girls Volleyball Seeks JV Coaches

Posted by Luke on Wednesday August 11 2010 12:02 am in Coaching,Youth | Comments (0)

The Citadel Girls Varsity Coaching Staff expects a large influx of pretty high level athletes to the point of not being able to accommodate them all on the varsity team. Our goal this year is to set up a program, not just a team and see how that pans out, but the main thing we need is one or two volunteers to take on the JV team. A background in volleyball would definitely be preferred, but we can help with the teaching coaching set-ups regarding drills, systems etc. – if desired. Alternately, if the coach is confident, they can be totally autonomous from the varsity.

At Citadel we have a great facility with access to two full size courts for practices. If things work out as hoped, we would like to try having at least one, and occasionally two combined practices per week, with the others separate. Our coaching staff will be available for advice, help and encouragement all the way, and I think we would be able to make it a rewarding experience for someone interested in the sport, in coaching, and in being around a positive and enjoyable environment. The time commitment would be for minimum 2 practices per week and on average 3 matches every two weeks through the season. In addition, we have hopes that the team would also be able to enter many of the same school tournaments that the senior varsity team will be entering.

If you or anyone you know may be interested, please contact head coach Ken Boutilier ASAP. Ken’s e-mail is: ken.boutilier@amec.com
