New Rule

Hey Everyone,

I’ve been sent the following to help clear up any issues with the new rule… this is the new rule in it’s entirety.

11.4 PLAYER’S FAULTS AT THE NET

A player interferes with the opponent’s play by (amongst others):

- touching the top band of the net or the top 80 cm of the antenna during his/her action of playing the ball, or

- taking support from the net simultaneously with playing the ball, or

- creating an advantage over the opponent, or

- making actions which hinder an opponent’s legitimate attempt to play the ball

Hope this helps!

October Tournament, Rules and Notes

Hello everyone!

Gym locations for the second tournament of the year have been posted. You can see them on the right hand side of the screen there.

Be sure to be there and ready to start at 9am SHARP. We only have the gyms for a limited amount of time and need to finish by that time so that we can have the finals and playoffs and all that jazz. Starting this month, if you’re not there in time and your team is scheduled to start, your team may be penalized.

Notice to teams about cheques. If you haven’t gotten your cheques in yet, please do so now, as you need to have your cheques to ensure your team a spot in the tournament. Also, some teams only sent in $66 for the February tournament. It is the annual “charity” tournament, and costs $100 to enter a team. Teams who didn’t send in enough will be notified by their court reps at this coming tournament. Sarah Maguire is taking on these responsibilities, and you can find her contact information on the Contacts page.

Teams who cancel after Wednesday night at 8pm will unfortunately lose their cheques. This is to prevent tournaments where we do not have any teams show up. The dates are all posted here on the website, they are always the first Saturday of the month (barring Holidays), so there should be no excuse to pull a team out before that. Cancellations should also be directed to Sarah Maguire.

There will be the usual party in November after that months tournament. More details will be announced in the coming weeks concerning the party.

New Rule: In an even more fun announcement, we are all about adopting change here at CVNS, and as such we are going to make a change to our rules. Starting this tournament if you touch the net anywhere that isn’t the tape and it does not interfere with play, it will no longer be a net foul. Hitting the tape and going under the net will still be called however as a matter of safety. Please be patient with our “referees” as we adopt this change.

Kicking it back up! September Tournament

Hello everyone! Welcome to the 2010/2011 season!

September tournament locations have been posted. Check here for registrations and here for all tournament dates.

Competitive teams will be playing at Stad this Saturday, starting at 9am sharp. Be sure to be there on time! Also, team captains, please get your team lists in to Sophie (Sophie [dot] Pitre-Arseneault [at] dfo-mpo [dot] gc [dot] ca) ASAP so you can get in to Stad to play on Saturday. (Likewise, team captains can send me their actual team names so I can change them on the registration page – luke [at] cvns [dot] org).

Super Rec teams will only have 1 division this month, and they will be playing at the Prospect Community Center (map link now on directions page!). Their tournament will be running from 12 noon to 7, though with only 8 teams, it shouldn’t really take that long. Should be the only time this happens, starting late is better than not starting at all!

Looking forward to another great season of Volleyball! See you on the court!

We’re Back!

… aaaaaand we’re back.

As Summer winds down (obvious by the heatwave going through Halifax) that means that another season of CVNS is ready to start up again.

First tournament of the year will be Saturday, September 18th. Because of normally low turnout in Septemeber tournaments, and school gyms not yet being available, there will only be room for 15 teams total (5 Competitive, 5 Super Rec A, 5 Super Rec B) teams for the September tournaments. Get your registration cheques into Kevin Reade (contact information on the contact page) to make sure you get your team registered for the upcoming season.

We will soon know the dates of the rest of the tournaments and they will be posted here.
